Prohibited language
1. Purpose
This page explains which language is not allowed on Vilomedia (comments, profiles, series text, covers, titles, crowdfunding, merch text) and what is generally allowed. Binding enforcement also follows Community Guidelines and Terms of service.

2. Not allowed - hate & identity slurs
These are banned in comments, profiles, titles, tags, and as insults aimed at real people. Filters may auto-strike common spellings, spaced letters, and leetspeak variants. Staff can still ban evasion.
- Racial & ethnic slurs targeting Black, African, East Asian, South Asian, Southeast Asian, Latino/Hispanic, Indigenous / Native, Middle Eastern, Arab, Jewish, Romani, Pacific Islander, or any other racial or ethnic group - including historical and slang forms used as pejoratives.
- Nationality / immigrant hate used as dehumanizing pejoratives (not normal country names used neutrally).
- Religious hate slurs aimed at Jews, Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, atheists, or other faith communities when used as bigotry.
- Anti-LGBTQ+ slurs aimed at gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, intersex, or queer people.
- Ableist slurs used to demean people with disabilities, mental illness, or neurodivergence.
- Gendered hate - misogynistic or misandrist terms used to degrade someone for their gender or to threaten sexual violence.
- Caste, tribe, or clan pejoratives used as hate speech.
- Calls for violence or genocide against a protected group, even without a single “slur” word.
- Evasion - dots, spaces, symbols, homoglyphs, emoji stand-ins, or soft-censoring used to still deliver the same slur.
3. Not allowed - other abusive language
- Threats of real-world violence, rape, or doxxing.
- Sexual comments aimed at minors, or asking minors for pictures / contact.
- Harassment campaigns, pile-ons, or repeated unwanted sexual advances after “no”.
- Scam / phishing bait language (“send seed phrase”, fake staff payment links).
4. Allowed
- Mild swearing that is not identity-targeted (for example damn, hell, shit, fuck used as emphasis - not as a slur against a protected group).
- Criticism of ideas, books, governments, companies, or public figures without protected-class slurs.
- Fictional insults that do not map onto real-world racial, ethnic, religious, or LGBTQ+ slurs (made-up fantasy pejoratives are fine).
- Accurate genre / content labels (for example tagging a story as dealing with racism or trauma) without using banned slurs as decoration.
- Quoting a slur inside a Report ticket so staff can see what was said - do not re-post the slur in public comments.
- Discussing hate speech as a topic in literary critique without deploying the slur as an attack on a reader or group.
5. Fiction & historical context
Stories may depict bigoted characters, but using real-world racial or LGBTQ+ slurs as punchlines, tags, titles, or reader-facing marketing is not allowed. If a historical or literary quote is essential inside a chapter, keep it minimal, non-celebratory, and not aimed at harassing readers. Staff may still remove or age-gate material that functions as hate speech in practice.
6. Enforcement
- Auto filters may issue a strike for blacklisted terms.
- Severe or repeated cases can mean mute, comment ban, removed content, or permanent ban.
- Five strikes in a calendar year can mean a permanent ban.
