How Vilomedia works

Vilomedia is a free-to-read shelf for novels, manga, and comics. Creators publish in Studio. Readers browse, follow, tip, and optionally subscribe to Plus. Binding contracts live under /legal — this page is the practical guide to the product and the community rules.

Browse, genres, and tags

Browse lets you filter by type (novel, manga, comic), main genre, sub-genre, and niche tags. Genres describe the broad shelf (Fantasy, LitRPG, Progression, and so on). Tags are finer labels readers search for (#strong-lead, #isekai, #cultivation, and similar).

On series cards, type appears under the title. Genre and tag chips open Browse with that filter so you can find more of the same.

For You ranking

For You is an optional Browse sort — not a separate feed explanation box on the catalog. When you choose it, we rank published series using signals such as:

• Taste — genres and habits from what you actually open, plus age-appropriate targeting when you have a birth year on file
• Quality — Bayesian ratings so a couple of 5★ friends do not dominate forever
• Rising — titles gaining reads this week
• Freshness — recent chapter updates
• Exploration — a few slots for new series and strong quieter titles so the shelf does not collapse into only what you already know

Cold start

If you are new or have little reading history, For You leans on trending and fresh titles until there is enough signal to personalize. Other sorts (newest, most read, rising, top rated) stay available anytime.

Plus, tip jar, and Donation Points

Plus is a live monthly Stripe subscription for ad-free reading, early chapters, and monthly Donation Points (DP). The tip jar is one-time live payments that also award DP.

DP buys cosmetics in the DP shop (outlines, GIF banners, covers). DP is not cash, not tradable, and not withdrawable. Vilomedia company affiliates receive complimentary lifetime Plus and should not be charged for Plus.

Publishing & monetization (short)

Creators keep ownership of original work; Vilomedia gets a limited host/distribute license. Default revenue splits, crowdfunding escrow, and payout age rules are in Content & creator agreement and Payments & refunds. Do not publish AI/SI creative work presented as human-authored.

Age

13+ to register and use the site. 18+ for NSFW after credit-card age verification, and 18+ to receive payments or payouts.

Protecting minors

Sexual content involving anyone 17 or under - or characters portrayed as minors - is banned with zero tolerance. We remove it, ban accounts, and report to authorities where required.

Grooming, solicitation of minors, or asking minors for personal contact or sexual content is banned.

Essential safety rules

These rules apply across series, comments, profiles, DMs where offered, crowdfunding, merchandise, and support tickets.

• No threats of violence, stalking, or coordinated harassment
• No doxxing or posting private personal data (addresses, IDs, school info, private photos) of real people
• No scams, phishing, malware links, or fake giveaways
• No impersonation of staff, creators, or brands
• No spam floods, mass @mentions, or engagement farming that harms other users
• Report illegal or dangerous content via Support (Report) instead of amplifying it

Bannable offenses

The following are bannable (immediate permanent ban may apply depending on severity):

• Hate speech and blacklisted identity slurs - full list: /docs/prohibited-language
• Real-world politics in content or community spaces (fictional politics in stories is allowed)
• Nudes or sexualized nudity on merchandise or merch mockups
• Publishing AI/SI-generated creative work (total ban)
• Harassment, scams, or abusing contests, crowdfunding, or referrals
• Sexual content involving minors or CSAM (zero tolerance)
• Doxxing, credible threats, or sharing private data of real people

Prohibited language (summary)

Identity-based slurs and hate speech are banned across comments, profiles, titles, tags, series text, crowdfunding, and merch copy. That includes racial and ethnic pejoratives, religious hate terms, anti-LGBTQ+ slurs, ableist slurs used as insults, gendered hate, caste pejoratives, calls for violence against protected groups, and deliberate misspellings meant to evade filters.

Mild swearing that is not aimed at a protected class is generally allowed. Quoting a slur inside a Report ticket so staff can review it is allowed - do not re-post it publicly. The plain-language allow / not-allowed list is published at /docs/prohibited-language.

NSFW

Adult content lives only in the separate NSFW tab after 18+ verification. It is not shown in Browse or Indie. Emojis, stickers, banners, and profile decorations are disabled on NSFW works. Portal series may not be NSFW.

Mislabeling NSFW as all-ages, or leaking adult content into non-NSFW surfaces, can mean strikes or a permanent ban.

Content strikes

• Automatic blacklisted-word / hate-speech flags issue a strike.
• External links inside novel text issue a strike.
• TOS breaches may cut ad revenue temporarily.
• Five strikes in a calendar year can result in a permanent ban.

AI - total ban

Do not publish AI-generated or heavily AI-assisted novels, manga, comics, covers, or chapter art. Violations are bannable.

Intellectual property

Publish only work you have rights to. Unauthorized copies of others’ work will be removed. Fan translations: see Content Agreement (free-to-read; ad-revenue split).

How to report

Open /support?category=report (Support → Report), or use in-product report controls where available. Include the series/chapter URL, @username, and a short description.
